April news

Excitement is building for our end of year performances in May! All currently enrolled families received an email yesterday with a link to this year's performance schedule. Please refer to that list to know whether your class will be performing in the May 30th 11:00, May 30th 2:00 and/or May 31st 5:00 performances. If you cannot find this schedule, please email Angela. We will continue to share more important performance updates via email over the next two months.

Costumes for the performance are beginning to arrive and dancers will be fitted during class in the month of April. Please remember attendance is very important especially during the spring semester when we are preparing for the big show. Students who miss more than four classes during the spring semester (February-May) will not be able to participate in the performance, so please make every effort to attend class regularly.

Promotion: 10% off Ailey tickets

Steppin' Out has been invited to take advantage of 10% off tickets to see Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley! (Have you ever looked at the black and white photos hanging in the back studio? Those are photos of the Ailey company!)

How to redeem your 10% discount:

More dance in the Bay

April 24–May 3 is Bay Area Dance week—a 10-day celebration of bodies in motion, when our dynamic and diverse dance community opens their doors to the public to experience classes, performances and so much more, for free! Check out the multitude of different offerings.

Movement of the month: grand jeté

We may have some April showers this month, which has us thinking about the potential puddles that might pop up. At the studio, we love using our pretend puddle to practice our grand jetés, especially with our youngest classes. A grand jeté is a large leap in the air with one leg extended to the front and the other extended to the back, creating a split in the air.  Start out small to ensure the legs are straight and the feet are pointed. Then you can practice building strength by jumping high in the air and focusing on splitting your legs wide as you leap.
