Observation week, costume days, and more!
October is here, which means it's time for a little Halloween choreography! Now that our students have started to settle in to their classes, we will spend this month learning new sequences of movement set to Halloween songs. This beloved Steppin' Out tradition isn't just fun, but also helps students learn more about musicality and challenges them to remember choreography from week to week. Most of our classes will spend a portion of class each week in October working on their Halloween choreography, reaffirming the lesson we often repeat to them: practice makes progress!
October holiday closures
The studio will be closed on Monday, October 12th for Indigenous Peoples Day. Please note that the studio will be open on Halloween for Saturday morning classes.
Observation Week
Parents and caregivers are invited to join us in the studio for Observation Week, October 26-31. Of course some of our parents whose dancers are in our youngest classes already regularly stay in the studio during classes. But for those who have older dancers enrolled in a drop-off only class, this is your chance to come and see what we've been working on! We understand that not everyone is able to attend Observation Week and that's okay. This is not a performance but simply a chance to come and observe the class. We will conduct class the same way we always do, so it's likely you'll catch our regular warm up, some across the floor work, and then we'll finish it out with our Halloween choreography!
Dress-Up Week
During the week of October 26-31 (the same as Observation Week), we invite all students to come to class dressed in their Halloween costume—or any costume that they want, as long as they are able to dance/move freely in it.
See your teachers perform!
Teacher Emily is performing with Flyaway Productions in a free, family-friendly, outdoor performance at several different public library branches around the city this month. Remaining shows are at 1pm and 3:15pm on October 10th (Main Library) and 17th (Ortega Branch). More info.
Teacher Claire is performing with Margaret Jenkins Dance Company in a new show that runs October 8-16 at the Joe Goode Annex. More info + tickets.
Quick tip: sticker book
We love giving stickers out to students at the studio at the end of each class. We recommend starting a sticker book and keeping it in your dance bag. Any small notebook will do. You can store all of the stickers you receive throughout the year in one place and revisit them later with a sense of pride. By the end of the year, it will be remarkable to see how many dance classes you've completed!
