Fall classes are here!

Welcome back to the studio! Fall classes are underway this week and we couldn't be more excited to have our community back in the space.

All of our enrolled families received a welcome email last week with important information about our dress code, observation policy, and other information for the semester ahead. Please email Angela if you did not receive this email.

Class highlights

While most of our classes are already at capacity, we want to highlight the classes below because they each have a few spots still available. This means it's not too late to sign up AND there's enough room for you to sign up with a friend or sibling!

  • Beginning III Tap/Ballet/Tumbling for ages 6-8
Saturdays, 9:00-10:00am, with Teachers Angela and Maya M.

This class is a level above our most beginning level classes and introduces a more complex ballet and tap vocabulary. Building on skills and positions learned in previous levels, students will deepen their technique with more focused, in-depth exploration of choreography.

  • Open Level Creative Movement for ages 4-6
Mondays, 4:00-4:45pm with Teachers Emily and Maya A.

Creative Movement is an imaginative and play-based dance class encouraging dancers to enjoy creative exploration and physical exercise. This class is for both new and returning dancers, and is designed to prepare students for a variety of techniques as they grow older.

  • Intermediate II Pop Jazz  *Placement/audition required
    Fridays, 5:00-6:00pm with Teacher Angela

Pop Jazz combines energetic rhythms and expressive movements of jazz with modern, upbeat pop music creating a fun and dynamic environment. We will focus on basic technique and vocabulary specific to jazz dance, and work on choreography in the context of contemporary, popular music.

Tips for returning to the studio

Starting a new dance class can be exciting, but can also make some feel nervous. Here are some tips to help our students make the most of their first class and start their dance year off on the right foot!

  1. Wear comfortable attire. Steppin' Out does not have a uniform but we do have a dress code: Students should wear dance attire that they can move freely in. Students might choose to wear leotards, tights, leggings, dance pants, tank tops, dance skirts, tutus, or fitted t-shirts. Any combination, color, or pattern is fine. No jeans please. Please note that hair should be secured up and out of the face.

  2. Arrive a few minutes early. On your first day, arriving 5-10 minutes early will help you familiarize yourself with the space. We do not have a waiting room that is a separate from the studio, but students are welcome to sit quietly and wait until their class is ready to begin.

  3. Pack a dance bag. Have a dance specific bag that has everything you need for class so it's easy to grab and go on dance class days! Make sure your dance bag has dance clothing (see above), hair supplies to keep your hair pulled back during class, a water bottle, and your dance shoes.

Our teaching staff will take it from here! Our first day of class will consist of introductions and icebreakers to allow students to connect with their teachers and classmates.
