Happy 30th to Steppin' Out!
We want to take a moment to express our appreciation for you, as this month marks Steppin' Out's 30th year in business! Thank you for gracing our studio with your excitement for dance year after year! Learn more about Steppin' Out's history at the bottom of this newsletter.
In other news, it's nearing costume time at the studio! In preparation for our May 31st & June 1st performances, we have begun the exciting process of ordering and trying on costumes. Over the next month or two, all our students will have a costume fitting during their regular class times. Performance participation is completely optional. If you are unable or not interested in participating in the performance, please let us know as soon as possible so we do not order you a costume.
No Spring Break Closures
We are OPEN during Spring Break—there are no weeks in March that the studio is closed.
Parent Observation Week: March 10-16
Our regular policy is that parents of students ages 6 years and older drop off their dancer and not stay in the studio during class. But we make an exception a few times a year, so here is your invite to stay and watch class the week of March 10-16. We will conduct class the same way way we do each week with a warmup followed by rehearsing choreography for our end of year performance, so you'll get a sneak peek of what your dancer will be performing in the show!
Summer Camp registration is now open!
This year, we will be offering a two week summer camp for kids ages 6-12! Join Angela & Pearl for a fun filled summer camp experience with some dance & Yoga, arts & crafts, popsicle making, and much more! Choose either or both weeks:
Week #1: June 9-13 (including a field trip to Yerba Buena Park)
Week #2: June 23-27 (including a field trip to The Randall Museum)
Camp will consist of a structured activity each day but we will also take daily trips to the park for fresh air and free time. Other than playing in the playground, some of our other favorite things to do at the park are playing soccer, hula-hooping, and cartwheels in the grass.

Steppin' Out's History
Steppin’ Out Dance Studio began in 1995, evolving out of the historic Betty May Dance Studios which served the children of the Mission District since the 1930’s. Together Angela Rose and Avilee Goodwin continued the Betty May tradition while expanding her vision. New dance styles such as creative movement and contemporary have been added to the original offerings of ballet, jazz, and tap.
Through our history, Steppin’ Out has offered the young people of the neighborhood a place to learn dance technique, improve coordination and self-esteem, and gain performance experience in a nurturing atmosphere. We give children and young adults an outlet to express themselves freely through dance.
As the current owner and director of Steppin’ Out Dance Studio, I want to say thank you to the late great Betty May and Avilee Goodwin for their love and guidance and to my mother for her support.
Note: The next time you are in the front studio, take a look at the black and white photos displayed on the wall. Betty May is featured with her students at Kezar Stadium in the 1930's.
See you at the studio,
Angela Rose Dorantes
